Day of Fasting & Prayer

On Tuesday, June 2, 2020 let us fast and pray together for all that is going on in our country right now.

The senseless killing of George Floyd at the hands of the police in Minnesota, and the resulting anger and protests and, in some cases, additional violence, has left many of us shocked, saddened, and maybe even at a loss about what to do. We see the issues of racial prejudice, of injustice in our systems and the deep pain this has caused, and continues to cause, for so many in our society, and we wonder: where is God in all of this? Is He at work? And if so, how? What can we do to make a difference?

Our first response as followers of Jesus, is to pray - for His justice, for His righteousness, for His love to come down and heal our land. Part of that involves us repenting for how we have, consciously or unconsciously, participated in the sin that is around and in us. And part of that involves crying out to God for Him to come and intervene - for Him to empower His church to be part of the healing, for His people to rise up and stand for good and right and truth in this world.

So - we invite each of you, as you are able, to join us on Tuesday, June 2, in fasting from one meal, or for the day (or, if medically not possible, from some other form of need or comfort for yourself), and to humble ourselves and pray. 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 says this: “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

And as we pray together, let's remember to pray in the way that Jesus taught us to pray, saying: Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

There will be several forums available during the day for you to pray with others - we invite you to join one, or more of these, listed below:
